Care Association Alliance Co-Chair Responds to NHS Report
This morning the results of a major report into the state of the NHS in England were published.
Melanie Weatherley MBE, Co-Chair of the Care Association Alliance and Chair of the Lincolnshire Care Association, has issued the following response:
“We welcome the report published today by Lord Darzi and the bold statement by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, in which he announced a new ten-year plan to rebuild the NHS.
Although social care was not directly included in Lord Darzi’s report, health and social care are two sides of the same coin. The proposed plan must also solve the social care crisis and tackle the issues around funding to relieve pressure on the NHS and reduce costs.
The report stated that 13% of NHS beds are occupied by people waiting for social care or support in more appropriate settings. However, this is not always due to a lack of capacity, and we would welcome the opportunity to work together to reduce this number.”
