Dress Up as an Animal for World Wildlife Day
Secret World Wildlife Rescue, a leading wildlife rescue charity in Somerset, is encouraging school children to take part in World Wildlife Day on 3rd March 2017.
World Wildlife Day is observed by the United Nations on the same date every year to celebrate our global wildlife as well as draw attention to pressing issues such as wildlife crime and threatened species.
The day offers a great opportunity for children of all ages to learn about our British wildlife and the challenges it faces. Secret World is encouraging schools to participate by taking advantage of a number of resources available to them via the charity’s website.
Ceri Cambridge, Learning and Engagement Officer at Secret World, said: “World Wildlife Day offers a chance to learn about the wild animals that live in our countryside and reconnect children with nature.
“We would like to invite schools in the South West and further afield to sign up to our wildlife-themed non-uniform day. We’d love to see participants dressing up as animals such as badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels, otters, mice, or any other creature they might come across in the wild.”
To support participating schools, Secret World has compiled a series of resource packs tailored for pre-school children all the way up to teens in year 11. These are available to download for free from Secret World’s website.
The charity would also like to encourage participants to fundraise and suggests a donation of £1 per pupil though schools and students can set a different amount if they deem it more appropriate.
Ceri said: “For those who are interested in fundraising, we can suggest different activities they could organise and will support them in doing so.
“We also offer opportunities to learn on-site. We are a Children’s University-approved learning destination so children taking part in this scheme may bring their passports and collect stamps for participating in activities at Secret World.”
As a thank you, children and teachers taking part in the wildlife-themed non-uniform day on 3rd March will be invited, with their family, to a free exclusive event at the Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre in East Huntspill on Saturday 11th March.
