Emma Shines as VisionDrive’s New Apprentice
VisionDrive, a Lincolnshire-based logistics company specialising in single vehicle movements, has launched an apprenticeship scheme and hired its first successful candidate.
Emma Roberts (20) has joined VisionDrive to complete a two-year apprenticeship in business and administration. She fought off competition from dozens of other applicants for the position.
Joining account manager Terri Lamb and directors Jack Davies and Ian Smith at the company’s office headquarters in Lincoln, Emma will be learning the ropes of a busy logistics firm, supporting the company’s fleet as they deliver new and used cars nationwide.
Emma said: “I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I’ve settled in well with the team and this is something that I could see myself doing as a career.”
Director Jack Davies said: “We launched the scheme because there is a real shortage of apprenticeships in Lincolnshire and we wanted to encourage young people to do something. With this scheme they can earn and learn which not only makes things more comfortable for them, but helps us too.”
A typical day in the office for Emma includes administration work on behalf of clients and in time her role will become more customer-facing. As part of her apprenticeship, Emma has also enrolled at Lincoln College to obtain her NVQ level two in business and administration.
A tutor from the college will be visiting Emma in the office once every six weeks to monitor her progress and give feedback on the academic side of the apprenticeship.
Emma has already been awarded her level one NVQ in business and administration and a level two NVQ in business which she says is what made her want to apply for the position.
Emma said: “I applied for the apprenticeship because business and administration is the kind of thing I like to do. I really enjoyed it at college for two years, so I wanted to continue that in a professional sense.”
In the future Emma hopes to set up her own business, but acknowledges that she still has a way to go before that happens.
She said: “This apprenticeship will help me eventually achieve my goals as it it’s going to give me a clear understanding of learning on the job. The mix of college assignments and the daily demands of the job will mean I have to manage my time well and excel at balancing work.”
VisionDrive was founded by Ian and Jack in 2016 and won the Lincolnshire Business Start-Up Business of the Year award in October. It now completes more than 200 movements per week for the likes of GEFCO, Pendragon PLC and Marshalls Motor Group.
