North Lincolnshire showjumping teenager Holly Truelove won third place in the Children’s Grand Prix at the Dutch Youngster Festival in the Netherlands at the weekend.

After three days’ jumping in Wierden Holly exceeded all expectations and rode two clear rounds to secure the bronze medal.

Sponsored by Lincoln-based building firm Truelove Property & Construction, Holly and her 11-year-old horse Golly Girl jumped clear in the first round to qualify for the last 11 from an initial field of 70 young riders.

It was the second time in recent weeks that Holly, from Worlaby near Brigg, has ridden with the Great Britain team in overseas competition.

Last month the 13-year-old helped the Great Britain team achieve third place behind Germany and Denmark at the Opglabbeek Nations Cup in Belgium.

“The weather on the second day was awful with torrential ran, but on the Saturday the sun came out and the ground had dried to create perfect jumping conditions,” said Barrie Truelove, Holly’s father and owner of Golly Girl.

“It proved a tough course but Holly and Golly Girl both jumped a fabulous clear round to qualify for the final with 10 others.

“In the final they were fast around the course and left all fences up, but they slipped into second place behind the leader and ended up coming third. But what a great day! Third best horse and rider out of the 70 best youngsters in Europe. Not a bad day’s work!”

Great Britain’s Oliver Fletcher riding Dahar won the Grand Prix ahead of second-placed Lilli Collee from Germany riding Barry Brown Escaille.
