New Primary School Programme to Help Children Dream Big

Lincolnshire County Council and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership are rolling out a new primary school careers programme funded by the Department for Education and the national Careers and Enterprise Company.

The goal is to encourage children from disadvantaged backgrounds to dream big about their future careers and gain an understanding of the type of jobs available, and the scheme will run through to 2025.

Delivered by the LEP’s Careers Hub, which is already supporting secondary schools in the area,  the  initiative is part of a new £2.6 million programme – Start Small Dream Big – targeting 2,250 primary schools and 600,000 pupils in 55 Education Investment Areas (EIAs).

Lincolnshire primary schools are being invited to hear more about this brand new project that will start in March 2024.

The programme will bring learning alive by linking lessons to careers. It will provide opportunities for pupils to meet inspiring employers so they can explore different jobs and understand the skills they’ll need for the future.  Primary school teachers will receive training delivered by Teach First to develop and deliver careers programmes.

Primary school headteachers are being invited to attend one of the Start Small, Dream Big launch webinars being run by the LEP’s Careers Hub in January:

Councillor Patricia Bradwell OBE, Deputy Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We welcome this new funding that means we can support our primary schools and help young people to explore the world of work in exciting and meaningful ways, raising aspirations and reducing barriers.

“The programme aims to inspire primary school children by connecting them with role models, showing them how different subjects relate to jobs and encouraging them to continue to dream big.”
