Ninth Shooting Star Chippy Quiz Builds Funds for BRIC

Quizzers were put through their paces at Shooting Star’s annual Chippy Quiz yesterday (27th November) and raised a total of £1,443 for charity.

The popular quiz returned to The Elite Fish & Chip Company’s Tritton Road restaurant in Lincoln in aid of BRIC (Building Resilience in Communities), a charity that supports vulnerable children and their families across Lincolnshire.

Over 70 people were challenged in eight categories, including a sound and picture round, and enjoyed a fish and chip supper. Quizzers also had the opportunity to win one of 20 raffle prizes, which had been generously donated by local businesses.

New Cods on the Block (POP Branding) were crowned as this year’s winners, receiving a coveted Chippy Quiz trophy created by event sponsor Micrometric and a Christmas hamper for each team member.

The winner of this year’s best team name was Wright Vigar using the name Cod Help Us!

All money raised will go to Shooting Star’s Charity of the Year for 2023, BRIC (Building Resilience in Communities). BRIC works closely with the local community, schools and service providers to support children and their families after dealing with issues such as illness, disability, abuse, isolation, and the demands of having a young family.

Kerry Gooderham from BRIC said: “Last night was a wonderful evening with the Shooting Star team at their annual Chippy Quiz.

“Their generous support means the world to us, and we are truly honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with the talented and dedicated team at Shooting Star.

“Their commitment to work with BRIC on a pro bono basis, providing PR, marketing and website support throughout the year, speaks volumes about their dedication to making a positive impact in the community.

“We also extend our heartfelt appreciation for planning and organising the annual Chippy Quiz to raise funds for our charity. This initiative demonstrates not only Shooting Star’s professional expertise but also their genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Shooting Star launched its annual Chippy Quiz in 2013 as a way of raising extra funds for its Charity of the Year – an initiative that offers a year of free PR and marketing support.

Shooting Star Director Kate Strawson said: “The Chippy Quiz has become a popular event in the Shooting Star calendar, and we look forward to organising it every year. It’s great to see the same local businesses returning year-on-year and we would also like to thank everyone who came for the first time this year.

“The Shooting Star team work really hard, and we would like to say a big thank to them, our sponsors Micrometric and The Elite for hosting it. BRIC is a brilliant charity which improves the lives of children and their families across Lincolnshire, and we are proud to support them by raising funds and awareness so that they can help even more people in the future.”

You can apply to be Shooting Star’s Charity of the Year in 2024 – the deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 15th December 2023.
