Ricky and Ryan Hoping to Capitalise on Home Ground Advantage
Double British F1 Sidecar champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood are on their way to Thruxton for round 7 of the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship with one goal in mind: to finish on the top step of the podium.
Sidecar driver Ricky Stevens, from Portsmouth, and his passenger Ryan Charlwood, from Dover, have had a troublesome season so far but things seemingly took a turn for the best at the end of the previous round at Brands Hatch.
The Hampshire-based pairing are headed to their local racing circuit full of determination, buoyed by the fact they celebrated a double win here last year.
Ricky said: “Thruxton is my favourite track. It suits us, our driving style and the outfit.
“After Brands, I’m fairly confident that we have resolved our engine issues but we are getting extra technical support from Bournemouth Kawasaki this weekend, to give us the best possible chance.
“We have some tough competition to fight off in the shape of the Reeves brothers, the Birchall brothers and Steve Kershaw. I’ll need to keep my head down and stay cool if we want any chance of repeating last year’s double win.”
Thruxton is a three-race event for the Hyundai Heavy Industries British F1 Sidecar Championship, with two races on the Saturday and one race on the Sunday. Ricky and Ryan will be hoping for fine weather to help them in their challenge.
Ryan said: “Thruxton could be the turnaround point for us. With three races on a track that we love, we have everything to play for.
“Last year we secured our first two wins of the season here but we also got pushed off the track the following day. We are determined to not have anything like that happen again.
“The goal is to get a good qualifying time and focus on the race and staying on the track.”
