The Elite Fish & Chip Company on Grantham Road in Sleaford has been named as one of the top 50 takeaways in the country.

The competition, run by Fry Magazine, means the Sleaford takeaway has made the prestigious list after independent mystery diners visited to assess a range of criteria.

Manager at the Sleaford branch, Rachel Tweedale, said: “We are judged on all sorts of aspects, from front of house and staff friendliness to cleanliness of the takeaway and product knowledge.

“Points were also awarded for the quality of the food with everything being critiqued from the crispness of the batter and the texture of chips to the flakiness of the fish.

“This means so much to us as a company as it is decided on by completely independent judges. I’m so excited for my team and want to thank them for doing us proud. We have an enviable level of quality when it comes to fish and chips and that can only be achieved when we all pull together.”

Takeaways picked up additional points for details such as clean and tidy uniforms, the availability of a specials board, and their ability to cook to order.

Reece Head, competition organiser, said: “We would like to congratulate all those shops that made our Top 50 Fish & Chip Takeaways 2017. The pass mark was once again set very high at 95% and to achieve that takes a lot of dedication and hard work from everyone involved.

“Running a fish and chip shop gets harder every year with so much going on behind the scenes, so to serve up excellent quality food with a matching level of service and atmosphere day in, day out deserves to be recognised.

“All the shops that made the list have proved they go the extra mile to give customers the best possible experience. That’s anything from detailing the boat that catches the day’s fish to running weekly specials, or simply taking time out to ask customers how their day has been.”
