Secret World’s First Wildlife Conference Takes Shape
Secret World Wildlife Rescue is set to start the new year with a bang as it prepares to host its first wildlife conference in February.
The leading animal rescue charity is hosting the conference to bring together wildlife experts, other charities, enthusiasts and stakeholders from across the South West to explore new ways to support and protect British injured wildlife.
Secret World Wildlife Rescue has released the agenda for the two-day conference which will feature a variety of lectures, presentations and discussions on wildlife issues including hedgehog and badger rehabilitation, conservation of bats and wildlife crime.
Pauline Kidner, founder of Secret World, commented: “This is the first conference of its kind that we have hosted in our 26-year history and we’re really excited to finally announce the agenda and speakers ahead of the new year.
“British wildlife is under increased pressure from environmental impacts and changes in legislation and human behaviour, and that’s why we’re hosting the conference.
“If we want our wildlife to thrive for years to come, we must work better with the community and experts.”
Several keynote speakers are already confirmed, including:
- Alex Barlow (wildlife pathologist, Animal and Plant Health Agency)
- Lucy Bearman-Brown (hedgehog researcher, Hartpury College)
- Geoff Edmonds (RSPCA)
- Liz Mullineaux (Veterinary Advisor, Secret World Wildlife Rescue)
- Andy Parr (badger enthusiast and researcher)
- Alick Simmons (veterinarian, naturalist and photographer)
- Dex Delahay (Animal and Plant Health Agency, Woodchester Park)
- Tom Dutton (Vets Now Referrals, Swindon)
The first day of the conference will focus on caring for British wildlife in the wild and the second day will be based around a wider discussion about the new treatments which are available to help injured and poorly wildlife.
The charity has extended its early bird ticket rate until 16th December. At the early bird rate, tickets cost £70 for one day or £120 for two days. Normal ticket prices after 16th December will be £80 for one day and £150 for both days.
The conference will take place from 10am until 5pm on 9th and 10th February 2019 (venue to be confirmed in the South West). The conference is open to anyone who wants to attend.
