Andrew & Co Partner Appointed Under Sheriff for Lincolnshire
Head of Personal Injury & Road Traffic Law at Andrew & Co Solicitors Michael Pace has been appointed Under Sheriff of Lincolnshire.
Michael, who is also a partner at the firm, was appointed to the role by the Lincolnshire High Sheriff William Day Esq. and was officially sworn in during a ceremony at St Nicholas’ Church in Fulbeck on Saturday (6th April).
Michael said: “It’s a great honour to be awarded the role of Under Sheriff for my home county of Lincolnshire and I am looking forward to playing my part for the county at large.”
The Office of High Sheriff dates back to Saxon times, when the ‘Shire Reeve’ was responsible to the king for the maintenance of law and order within the shire, or county, and for the collection and return of taxes due to the Crown.
Supporting the Crown and the judiciary remain central elements of the role, and although today the role is more a ceremonial one, High Sheriffs actively lend support and encouragement to crime prevention agencies, the emergency services and the voluntary sector.
The High Sheriff will usually attend royal visits to the county and will also attend to the welfare of visiting High Court judges, and occasionally sit with them at court in an observatory role.
Under the Sheriffs Act 1887, the High Sheriff has a legal duty to appoint an Under Sheriff – usually a solicitor. As well as being responsible for supporting the High Sheriff with their duties, the Under Sheriff also provides legal guidance.
In his role Michael will assist the Lincolnshire High Sheriff with events such as the annual High Sheriff of Lincolnshire Awards, which recognise people who’ve made a significant contribution to the community, and the legal service in Lincoln Cathedral.
Michael has been working in the legal profession for over 30 years. Since joining Andrew & Co Solicitors in 1998 as Head of Personal Injury, he has developed a niche practice in road traffic law building on his previous experiences in the police force.
He specialises in representing drivers alleged to have committed road traffic offences; liability in motor accident cases; high-value personal injury claims and representing and advising fleet operators with DVSA and Traffic Commissioner issues.
He is an accredited Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
