Heritage Lincolnshire Needs Boston Photos and Memories

Heritage Lincolnshire is calling on members of the public to share their photos and memories of The Old King’s Head in Kirton near Boston for its latest conservation project.

The charity is hoping to build on the historical records it currently holds on the 16th century building so that it can produce a detailed timeline of stories and photos for locals and visitors to learn more about the building.

Any pictures or information shared by members of the public will be used on a new website which is currently being developed for The Old King’s Head to increase awareness of the building’s history and encourage tourists to visit Kirton and the wider Lincolnshire area.

Hannah Thompson, Business Manager at Heritage Lincolnshire, said: “Any stories or photos of The Old King’s Head that people can share with us would be greatly appreciated as we would love for the community to get involved in this tremendous restoration project.

“We’re particularly looking for any information about the inn during the 1700s or information on previous landlords’ and tenants’ notorious escapades from the 1500s up until the present day.

“Photos that are submitted don’t need to be particularly high quality in terms of picture resolution – scans of photographs are perfectly acceptable. We just ask that the photos be sent with some accompanying information along with dates of when they were taken.”

Heritage Lincolnshire works to conserve the county’s history for the benefit of people who live and work in the area and hopes that restoring The Old King’s Head into a luxury B&B, café, deli and community space will breathe life back into the village of Kirton and the surrounding area.

The Old King’s Head is steeped in history and has stood in the rural village of Kirton for over 400 years. The village was once a large and bustling town in the medieval period, but traffic diversion away from the town centre led to a decrease in trade and tourism.

The refurbishment of The Old King’s Head which was a former inn, pub and family home, will complement the new and rising interest in the area; recently several new housing developments have been given approval and Jaguar Land Rover has also built a large showroom on the outskirts of Boston, which is just a short drive from Kirton.

Heritage Lincolnshire invites people with a connection to the building or to the area to send in their photos and stories to: okh@heritagelincolnshire.org by Tuesday 31st
March.

The Old King’s Head is still undergoing renovation work and is set to open to the public in the spring of 2020. To find out more about Heritage Lincolnshire follow the charity on Facebook and Twitter or visit: https://www.heritagelincolnshire.org/.
