MP’s Visit Marks Old King’s Head Milestone

Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman visited The Old King’s Head in Kirton which is halfway towards being completely renovated by Heritage Lincolnshire.

During the visit on Friday 31st January Mr Warman was given a guided tour of The Old King’s Head by Heritage Lincolnshire CEO Greg Pickup and Site Manager Shaun Gay from Splitlath Ltd which is leading on the building and conservation work.

“I’m delighted to have been invited along today to mark The Old King’s Head being halfway to completion,” said Mr Warman.

“I’ve visited on a few occasions and have seen it progress from the initial stages – the transformation so far looks fantastic!

“When complete, The Old King’s Head will be a welcome addition to Kirton’s community and a fantastic place for guests to visit when staying in Lincolnshire. Now that the halfway point has been passed, I can’t wait for the grand opening!”

Heritage Lincolnshire works to conserve and enhance the rich heritage of Lincolnshire for the benefit of people who live and work in the area. It is currently transforming The Old King’s Head – a 16th century former inn, pub, hotel and family home in Kirton – into a luxury B&B, café, deli and community space.

Greg Pickup commented: “The local workforce has undoubtedly been essential to the transformation of The Old King’s Head. We have a team of 12 working on the project and as well as the physical renovation work, training and upskilling the labourers has been one of the key outcomes of this venture.

“Through this project we’ve been able to train and upskill the local workforce and we’re delighted to announce that once renovation work is complete on The Old King’s Head, the team will be working on another nearby project – the renovation of St Peter and St Paul’s medieval church in Algarkirk, Boston.”

The Old King’s Head is still undergoing renovation work and is set to open to the public in the spring of 2020.
