Improve Later Life with LACE Housing at the Lincolnshire Show

The popular Lincolnshire Show returns this month and LACE Housing is gearing up to meet visitors alongside colleagues from the Lincs Independent Living Partnership (LILP).

LILP, which consists of Age UK Lincoln and Kesteven, Boston Mayflower Housing Association, Lincolnshire Home Independence Agency, St Barnabas and LACE Housing, aims to facilitate independent living and enhance the health and wellbeing of vulnerable residents in the county.

The consortium will be at the Lincolnshire Show on 21st and 22nd June to showcase its service offering from stand number 19 on avenue eight.

LACE Housing, which provides specialist housing and support services for older and vulnerable people in the county of Lincolnshire and the surrounding area, will also be offering refreshments in return for a donation in aid of its work.

Meanwhile, representatives from Boston Mayflower will host Dementia Friends information sessions between 11am and 12 noon and 2pm and 3pm on Wednesday 21st June and from 11am until 12 noon on Thursday 22nd June.

The sessions are designed to educate people about what it’s like to live with dementia, so that they can turn that understanding into action and help create dementia-friendly communities.

“Often people don’t realise the small changes they can make to help someone living with dementia,” said Nick Chambers, Chief Executive of LACE Housing. “For example, even something as insignificant as a doormat can lead to panic – if it’s a dark colour, it could appear as a black hole.”

Inside the LILP marquee, there will also be a memory table filled with items from the past as well as nostalgic music playing, which those living with dementia can often connect with.

To help recharge their batteries, visitors to the LILP marquee will also be treated to head and hand massages courtesy of St Barnabas.

Nick will be attending the Lincolnshire Show with colleagues Marie Vardy and housing co-ordinator Sam Nolan.

He added: “We’re excited to launch the new website for LILP at the show and let people know all about the work we do to help make later life as fulfilling as possible.”

Dementia Friends sessions are free of charge and suitable for all ages. Interested parties are being encouraged to pre-book by visiting: www.dementiafriends.org.uk/WEBSession
