Pledge Your Support for Ending Food Poverty in Lincoln

People and businesses in Lincoln are being invited to show their support for food sustainability in the city by signing up to the Lincoln Food Partnership Pledge.

The Lincoln Food Partnership is a charitable network of organisations, businesses and members of the public working collaboratively to improve the sustainability of food and the food system in Lincoln and the surrounding area.

The team behind it wants to hear from people who support their mission of achieving greener, fairer and healthier food for all through sustainable local action.

By signing up to the pledge free of charge, members will be kept in the loop about everything the Lincoln Food Partnership is doing to work towards its mission.

They’ll also have the opportunity to share relevant activities as examples of best practice to circulate among its members and generally get involved in all aspects of food, from growing to eating.

Professor Nigel Curry, Co-Chair of the Lincoln Food Partnership, said: “We know there’s bound to be some great work already going on in and around the city to help tackle food poverty and achieve food sustainability, and we want to support and promote it as much as we can.

“There are several benefits to signing up to our pledge, which include opportunities for partnership working; for example, you may be able to work with other members on projects that might not be achievable alone.

“Existing members have worked together on joint bids for funding and food waste reduction projects, and food growers have supplied retailers with fresh local produce.

“By signing up to the pledge, people can get involved in our current major project to develop a central food hub for Lincoln, which will be used to gather food that would otherwise go to waste for distribution to those in food poverty.”

The Lincoln Food Partnership was established in 2016 after the University of Lincoln published its Food Strategy for Lincoln, which outlined what a local food strategy can do and gave recommendations for the city.

The full list of benefits of signing up to the Lincoln Food Partnership Pledge are:

  • Receipt of a regular newsletter detailing food-related activities going on in Lincoln and its surrounding areas that are sympathetic to the Lincoln Food Partnership mission
  • Attendance at the Lincoln Food Partnership’s annual conference
  • An opportunity to let the Lincoln Food Partnership know about the things you are doing that are relevant to its mission so that it can share good practice throughout the partnership’s community
  • An opportunity to work in partnership with other members on projects that might not be achievable on your own
  • Become involved in the Lincoln Food Partnership’s current major project: the development of a central food hub for Lincoln, to gather ‘waste’ food together for distribution to those in food poverty
  • Have a say on policy issues where the Lincoln Food Partnership has representation on a number of local public bodies
