Shooting Star Chips in for Charity with Popular Quiz Night

Shooting Star’s annual Chippy Quiz has made a long awaited return following the pandemic and raised a record amount for charity.

The popular event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 owing to COVID-19 but the quiz returned to The Elite Fish & Chip Company’s Tritton Road restaurant in Lincoln last week (28th November) and raised £1,527.

The money will go to Shooting Star’s Charity of the Year for 2022, Headway Lincolnshire in addition to the £730 raised from a sponsored cycle ride, bringing this year’s total to £2,257.

Ann-Marie Smith, Coordinator and Development Officer at Headway Lincolnshire, said: “We’d like to thank Shooting Star for organising the evening and to everyone who supported the event.

“We had a fantastic evening and we are so thankful for everyone’s hard work and generosity. The money raised will go a long way to supporting the work we do with brain injury survivors and their families in Lincolnshire who have been affected by life changing brain injury.”

Over 70 keen quizzers were put through their paces in eight categories including general knowledge, TV and film, music, Australia and current affairs, and at half time they enjoyed a fish and chip supper.

This year’s winners were POP Branding, who won four framed promotional posters of Lincoln designed by University of Lincoln students and a special trophy created by event sponsor Micrometric.

The winner of this year’s best team name was DPS Digital, who competed under the name Let’s Get Battered. They also won a trophy and vouchers to spend at the Elite restaurants and takeaways.

A signed Lincoln City FC shirt donated by the Lincoln City Foundation was auctioned on the night and raised £150.

Shooting Star launched its annual chippy quiz in 2013 as a way of raising money for its Charity of the Year. So far it’s helped to generate more than £8,000.

This year its chosen charity is Headway Lincolnshire, which supports survivors and their families across the county living with a brain injury following a stroke, epilepsy, a physical assault or a life-changing car or sporting accident for example.

Headway Lincolnshire also offers free counselling for carers including a support group which delivers the coping skills and strategies that they need to sustain a healthy life and to provide continued care for their loved one.

Shooting Star Director Kate Strawson said: “Headway Lincolnshire provides vital support for hundreds of brain injury survivors and their families every year and I would like to thank everyone who took part in the quiz or donated a prize.

“Special thanks go to Nigel and his team at The Elite for hosting the event so superbly as usual, and to our event sponsor Micrometric, who helped us to raise a record amount this year!”
