GB Bobsleigh Team to Appear at IoD Summer Ball

The GB Bobsleigh team, which is hoping to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics, will be among the special guests at the Lincolnshire & Rutland IoD Platinum Jubilee Summer Ball next month.

GB Bobsleigh Development Pilot Corporal John Stanbridge, who is also an avionics supervisor in the RAF, and two of his teammates will be bringing their sled to the prestigious black tie event at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) on 16th September.

After a successful European Cup season, the team are now focusing on qualifying for the World Cup and World Championships in 2023/2024 and are hoping to drum up sponsorship to help them achieve their ultimate aim of winning an Olympic medal.

Along with the GB Bobsleigh team, Army Air Corps veteran Alan Whittle MBE, who is also Director of Strategy and Plans for Lincoln-based defence company Inzpire, will be making an appearance.

Alan will be sharing his experience of working as a commanding officer in the army and how his 32-year military career has helped him make a success in business.

Other special guests include Nicky van der Drift, Chief Executive of the IBCC.

Michelle Allison, Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland branch of the IoD, said: “This is the first in-person event we’ve organised since the pandemic and it’s a great opportunity for IoD members and non-members to get together in the fantastic surroundings of the IBCC.

“They’ll also be able to meet and hear from some inspirational leaders, including our after-dinner speaker Alan Whittle who has some incredible stories to tell. So, get dressed up and join us for this jubilee-themed celebration of togetherness!”

As well as marking Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee and her role as head of the UK’s Armed Forces, the ball will celebrate the IoD’s rich connections to defence in Lincolnshire.

Guests will also be able to enjoy drinks and networking on the lawn at the IBCC, a delicious three-course dinner, a marquee bar and live entertainment from jazz ensemble the Rutland Big Band.

The ball will be a formal black tie event. Tickets cost £60 + VAT for members and £70 + VAT for non-members. Tables of 10 are also available to book for £540 + VAT. To book visit iod.com/events
