A Royal Visitor at BGU
Everyone loves a royal visit, especially the media. When the Princess Royal came to Lincoln on Friday her first stop was at Bishop Grosseteste University, for whom we have been handling PR and publicity for over a year.
Whenever royals pay a visit to the shires they invariably have three or
four events lined up, and if you’re hoping to get maximum media coverage out of yours there are two factors that can help. One: it’s best to be first rather than last on the list. Two: you’d better hope that the other visits don’t involve cute children or cuddly animals.
Luckily for us Bishop Grosseteste University had both factors in its favour last week. Pressing deadlines and a tight timetable meant the university got the lion’s share of the media exposure, including footage on BBC Look North’s lunchtime and teatime bulletins.
On the day there were nine journalists for us to look after, including BBC Lincolnshire’s Carla George, who did live interviews on Melvyn Prior’s Mid-Morning Programme, Amy Grace Nagy from Lincs FM and representatives from the Lincolnshire Echo and The Lincolnite.
Thanks to some excellent organisation and hard work on the part of BGU staff and students the visit passed off without a hitch. It was a perfect way to round off a momentous year in which BGU has celebrated its 150th anniversary and become a university. JA
