Happy Birthday Shooting Star!
This last year has flown by and although it’s not a special anniversary year for us, we have three members of the team who are all celebrating some rather big birthdays soon (mentioning no names!).
To mark the occasion, we decided that this year rather than celebrate our birthday we’d take the time to reflect on our achievements over the past 11 years.
You probably already know a little bit about the history of our business, but for those of you who don’t, here’s a little overview. In 2006, after working together in the University of Lincoln’s press office, directors Kate Strawson and Jez Ashberry saw an opportunity to set up Lincoln’s first PR agency. So, with a lot of courage, a star was born!
Since then we’ve rebranded and expanded our services to include marketing and digital. At the heart of Shooting Star is our passion for helping businesses to grow and succeed, something that is clear to see from the results we’ve achieved over the years. Most recently four of our clients have been nominated in a range of categories at the Midlands Family Business Awards and the Nursery World Awards. Shooting Star has also been shortlisted for two Chartered Institute of PR (CIPR) PRide Awards this year.
In addition to PR and marketing services, we also offer copywriting and proofreading for brochures, newsletters and websites as well as training to help people gain skills and confidence in media relations, social media and crisis management.
We work closely with local and national journalists and are never prouder than when we see our clients’ in the news for all the right reasons. We’re also undertaking an increasing amount of social media work and have helped some of our clients to double if not quadruple their social media reach and engagement!
We owe our success to our creative and hard-working team who arrive at the office every morning with a smile on their face ready to shoot for the stars! With a combined 80 years’ experience in journalism, international PR, digital, event organisation and marketing there’s not much we can’t turn our hand to.
As the range of services we offer increases, so does the number of clients we look after, which is why we recently appointed another new member of staff.
We love finding new talent and giving people the opportunity to grow and develop new skills. Every year we run a paid graduate internship scheme for people who believe they’ve got what it takes to work in the industry and want to get their foot in the door.
We were so impressed by this year’s Rising Star intern Nikhita Keshwara we decided to give her a full-time job as Junior Account Executive at our Lincoln office.
Finally, don’t forget that birthdays and big events in your business calendar are a good opportunity to secure some positive PR in the media and strengthen your relationships with existing and potential clients, suppliers, partners and stakeholders. In fact, we talked about how to celebrate good times in our blog last September!
So, as the final quarter of 2017 approaches and we blow out our candles on our 11th birthday cake, the team is looking forward to another year – whatever exciting opportunities it may bring!
