Fifth Chippy Quiz is a Sell-Out

After lots of planning and organisation for one of the most popular events in the Shooting Star calendar, our fifth annual chippy quiz took place on Monday (20th November) and we raised a mighty £1,550 in aid of The Children’s Bereavement Centre and Marmalade Trust, smashing all existing records!

A record 19 teams gathered at The Elite Fish and Chip Company in Lincoln to take part in the fifth annual Quiz, Chips & Mushy Peas event.

We heard from Caroline Froggatt, Corporate and Community Engagement Officer at The Children’s Bereavement Centre, who explained how the money raised on the night would make a difference to the lives of children and young people needing bereavement and loss support.

Quizmaster Jez Ashberry then sounded the klaxon and the contestants got their game faces on!

As well as eight rounds of questions covering everything from general knowledge to film and TV, there was a raffle with prizes kindly donated by local businesses.

During the break guests enjoyed a delicious fish and chip supper complete with Elite’s moreish mushy peas.

This year we also added a game of heads and tails to the night which raised £125 alone! Through our quiz night with a difference we have now raised more than £5,000 for our chosen charities in the last five years.

We would like to say a special thanks to Adrian and Donna Tweedale and their staff at The Elite, who were not only fantastic hosts for the evening but also donated the food for free, which boosted the overall total considerably.

The winning team – Andrew & Co Solicitors – took home a wine and cheese hamper courtesy of Shooting Star and NISA Local in Metheringham.

The Elite Fish & Chip Company also chose ‘Cod This Be the Best Plaice in the Tunaverse?’ as the best team name and donated a £20 voucher to the winners, Epix Media, to spend in the restaurant and takeaway.

Thanks to everyone who took part or donated a raffle prize – we hope to see you all next year!
