TV Coverage for University Hustings

Bgu hustings

We love it when our clients get on the telly, so we were delighted when the BBC’s regional news programme Look North told us they wanted to broadcast live from an election hustings at Bishop Grosseteste University.

The event was an opportunity for the city’s students to put questions to the six candidates bidding to become Lincoln’s MP next month.

On the podium alongside the Conservative candidate Karl McCartney were Labour’s Lucy Rigby, Ross Pepper of the Liberal Democrats, Elaine Smith for the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition, Helen Powell from Lincolnshire Independents and Tony Wells, who stood in for UKIP’s parliamentary candidate Nick Smith.

There was a good turnout of around 100 young people who asked questions on topics ranging from education, tuition fees and engaging young voters to housing and immigration.

BBC reporter Gemma Dawson broadcast live for Look North from outside The Venue at BGU at the start of the event and interviewed all the candidates as well as two students to hear their impressions of the debate.

The event also attracted media attention from other quarters: The Lincolnite live blogged about it during the evening while BBC Radio Lincolnshire and the Lincolnshire Echo also attended.
