Our Charity Challenge is Complete!
The Shooting Star team in Lincoln recently descended on the Sports and Fitness Centre at Bishop Grosseteste University to finish our marathon #StarChallenge for our charity of the year.
When brainstorming how we’d like to celebrate Shooting Star’s 10th year in business, we decided we’d like to give something back to the community at the same time.
Fast forward to the month of August, during which each member of our team completed a marathon in aid of the Lincolnshire Carers and Young Carers Partnership.
Inspired by the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, we ran, walked or cycled the distance between our two offices in Lincoln and Bristol – a total of 181 miles!
Having tackled the first 16 miles each in our own time, six of us got together on Thursday 25th August to complete the final 60 miles.
We took to the treadmills, bikes and rowing machines at the Sports and Fitness Centre at BGU and powered through 10 miles each.
It was definitely a challenge, especially as some of us had never set foot in a gym before!
We’ve already raised some much-needed funds for the Lincolnshire Carers and Young Carers Partnership (LCYCP), but are still accepting donations in the hope of raising a total of £1,000 by the end of the year.
The LCYCP, based in Lincoln, signposts people of all ages who provide unpaid care to essential information and support while also representing the voice of carers through a range of projects and initiatives.
We have been supporting them with free PR guidance and advice as part of our charity of the year initiative, which also includes raising money where possible.
