We’re Supporting Sophie’s Journey in 2018!
After receiving so many applications it was a difficult decision, but following much deliberation we’ve decided on a charity of the year for 2018!
Shooting Star will be offering PR and marketing services and expertise free of charge to Sophie’s Journey, as well as taking part in fundraising activities over the next 12 months.
Sophie’s Journey operates across Lincolnshire, and was initially created in 2014 to fulfil the wishes of Lincoln schoolgirl Sophie Robinson. At the time the 11-year-old was receiving treatment for a brain tumour, and her aim was to fund raise for the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre in the hope that no other child would have to repeat her experience.
Over the course of two years Sophie and her family raised just under £50,000. Sadly, Sophie lost her fight in 2016, but her family registered Sophie’s Journey as a charity in memory of her spirit and inspiration. They now work to provide children in Lincolnshire suffering with cancer with a short seaside holiday with their families.
The charity has already bought one static caravan in Mablethorpe and is currently fundraising to buy another which will be fully adapted for children with disabilities.
Since launching our charity of the year initiative in 2009, we’ve helped ten charities in Lincolnshire that otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford ongoing PR and marketing activity including The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours To Cancer!’ Foundation, Marmalade Trust and the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
