Supporting Sophie’s Journey

As you may already know, Lincolnshire-based Sophie’s Journey is our 2018 charity of the year, and we are delighted to be supporting Stacy Southwell, who runs the charity in memory of her daughter Sophie.

Sophie sadly passed away in January 2016, aged 12, after a two-year battle with medulloblastoma – an aggressive tumour in her brain.

Sophie’s Journey provides free holidays to children living with cancer and their families at its two dedicated caravans at Golden Sands Holiday Park in Mablethorpe.

Stacy wanted to give the affected families a break away from the hospital environment and fulfil a promise to her daughter to improve the lives of children going through a similar experience.

Through our charity of the year initiative we’ve been helping Sophie’s Journey to raise its profile in a number of ways.

So far, we’ve been writing content for the new website, we’ve created designs, posters and tickets for fundraising events, and we’ve even had the privilege of attending the official opening of the charity’s second caravan.

This was held in April after Stacy and her partner Ben had used donations totalling £50,000 to buy the caravan and pay for it to be fully adapted.

The brand new accommodation includes wheelchair access and a full wet room, and it gives children who have extra mobility needs as a result of their gruelling treatment the same opportunity to enjoy the best break possible.

We’re really enjoying working with the team behind Sophie’s Journey and Stacy is keeping us busy and making good use of our services, which are free of charge to her throughout the year.

At the time of writing, we’re working hard on designing some tickets for the Sophie’s Journey family fun day, which is taking place on Saturday 4th August.

If you or someone you know is supporting a child living with cancer, or has lost a child to cancer, and would like to apply for a holiday courtesy of Sophie’s Journey, you can do so by contacting Stacy via the charity’s Facebook page.

If you know a charity that you think could benefit from our services, please get in touch. We’ll be opening applications for our 2019 charity later in the year.
