Reflecting on Our Biggest Ever Chippy Quiz!
A record number of teams filled The Elite Fish & Chip Company’s Lincoln restaurant for our sixth annual Quiz, Chips & Mushy Peas event in aid of four charities.
Eighty guests, comprising our clients, suppliers, media contacts and even family members, helped us to raise £1,103 at our famous chippy quiz night on Monday 26th November.
Half of this will be donated to our charity of the year Sophie’s Journey, which provides free holidays to Lincolnshire children with cancer and their families.
The remainder will be divided between the Elite’s three chosen charities – the RNLI, the RAF Association and Sleaford Dementia Support.
The venue was at full capacity as 20 teams of four were put to the test in eight categories including general knowledge, film and television, sport and current affairs.
They had chance to refuel with a fish, chips and mushy peas supper at the halfway point.
Last year’s winners from Lincoln law firm Andrew & Co returned to defend their title but were beaten this year by The Cathedral Collective, who scored a total of 75 and a half out of 90 points and took home a case of wine.
Winners of the best team name for the third year running, as chosen by staff from the Elite restaurant, were colleagues from Epix Media who dubbed themselves ‘No Squidding, You Cod Not Do Batter Than This Plaice’.
They were presented with £20 worth of vouchers to spend at the Elite restaurants and takeaways, shortly after Ash Hildred won an overnight stay for two at The Elm Tree Luxury Boutique Bed and Breakfast in the Lincolnshire Wolds during a game of heads and tails.
There were also 20 prizes to be claimed in the raffle, including a Lexus driving experience courtesy of Lexus Lincoln and an overnight stay at Inglenook Guesthouse in Ingleton, kindly donated by Director Jez’s brother Tim and his wife Zena.
Each year we work on a pro bono basis for a charity which wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford PR or marketing services, and we launched our chippy quiz in 2013 to support each charity’s fundraising efforts.
The quiz has generated over £6,000 to date and the money we’ve raised for Sophie’s Journey this year will help maintain the two caravans it owns at Golden Sands Holiday Park in Mablethorpe.
Stacy, who runs the charity in memory of her daughter, is also aiming to launch a much-needed counselling service for bereaved Lincolnshire families, so every penny counts.
Our chippy quiz has become such a popular event in people’s diaries that it sold out this year in record time!
As ever, we are extremely grateful for everyone’s support in helping to make the evening such a success.
Special thanks to the team at The Elite Fish & Chip Company for allowing us to host the quiz at their Lincoln restaurant for a fourth year, and to all who very kindly donated prizes.
The Elite staff always provide a brilliant service and we are pleased to have supported them in their efforts to raise a total of £30,000 for the chain’s three chosen charities during its 30th year in busines.
