My Week of Work Experience

Having decided promptly after starting college that I didn’t want to go to university, I knew that I wanted to enter the world of work as soon as possible. I researched marketing agencies in the area and reached out to a handful that I most liked the look of, Shooting Star being one of them.

After a few exchanged emails I visited the office for a meeting to discuss me coming in for some work experience, and that brings us to this week!

I have been lucky enough to work with the team at Shooting Star this week and I have had a varied and enjoyable five days.

My first day involved carrying out some market research and also putting together the support guides and giveaways ready for Expo East later on in the week.

On Tuesday I went along to the second day of the Chamber of Commerce Collaboration 4 Growth PR workshop, where members of the team Sam and Kate shared their expertise with small local business owners. It was both interactive and informative and helped to build my knowledge on the world of PR and marketing.

Business Development Manager Alex and I then attended the Development Partner Network event in Grantham where around 70 businesses were exhibiting and networking with each other. It was good to shadow Alex as she networked with people and it allowed me to have an insight into another aspect of the job.

On Wednesday I accompanied Account Manager Zoe to one of her monthly client meetings – another valuable experience as I was able to see how Shooting Star helps and works with its clients.

In the afternoon a few of us then headed to Newark to set up the stand for Expo East the following day, and the new banners looked great!

I attended Expo East with a few of the team; it was an amazing experience for me and a day that I certainly got a lot out of. I met a lot of new people and was able to network for myself and it was a pleasure to be there and to help Shooting Star represent the agency.

Overall, I have had an extremely valuable week in terms of experience and exposure to the industry and the team at Shooting Star could not have organised a better week for me!
