Coming from a background in social media with a degree in Marketing, PR and Advertising, Tamzin joins the team to work across several of our key accounts, bringing her varied skill set to help diversify our offering even further.
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
I am a bit of a social media fiend, a typical Gen-Z through and through. From Twitter to TikTok, I am pretty well versed in all things pop culture, but I am also a keen writer, and I want to hone my copywriting skills further and expand my knowledge in the world of public relations. I have just finished my degree at the University of Derby and have relocated to Lincolnshire. I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my life and career!
What made you want to work in marketing?
I first discovered the industry back in 2015 when I used to run a blog and a YouTube channel. I have been creating content in some manner ever since and I have such a passion for it! On leaving school I undertook an apprenticeship in Digital Marketing, which only grew this passion of mine. Since then, I spent four years at university, developing both my academic skills and securing relevant work experience in various areas. I have worked on both B2B and B2C accounts in the public and private sectors, including for local authorities, in higher education and in hospitality, with small businesses and sole traders. I am a creative soul and find that bringing fresh, innovative ideas to a workplace is how I thrive. Marketing scratches that itch for me, as it combines many of my passions, from social media to writing and beyond.
When did you start?
Looking back, I started working in marketing in 2015, when I started my blog and YouTube channel. I really kickstarted my career when I embarked on my apprenticeship in 2017, and on starting university in 2018, and I’ve worked in the industry part time ever since. Whether it was via internships or freelancing, I worked really hard alongside my studies to secure such experience and put me in a strong position when I graduated.
Why did you start freelancing?
My freelancing really picked up in the lockdown, and I loved getting to share my expertise with small business owners who were either struggling with the effects of Covid or were looking to diversify as a result of it. I have worked with some outstanding individuals who have all inspired me one way or another on my journey.
What makes Shooting Star a good fit for you?
First and foremost, the name! I love anything star related, from astrology to my favourite painting, Van Gogh’s Starry Night. The culture at Shooting Star also seemed really right for me and getting to work across different clients in sectors I am yet to make my mark in sounded like a fabulous opportunity. I really look forward to working collaboratively with the team, learning from some of the best in the field and celebrating our wins together.
