PR Geeks are Chic
When I first started out in public relations you could have put all Lincoln’s PR professionals in a phone box and still have room to make a call.
How times have changed! Last night 40 city-based PR people gathered at the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln for the inaugural get-together of PR Geeks.
An informal gathering with no particular objective in mind, PR Geeks was the brainchild of Jane Crofts, a council PRO turned university PR lecturer who wanted to create a meeting point for press officers, comms consultants, agency staffers and PR students.
Last night’s meeting provided a great mix of youth and experience and brought together practitioners from local authorities, the NHS and the city’s two universities as well as freelancers and those working in agencies.
A good PR event requires lubrication, so we spent a pleasant hour or two in the DoubleTree viewing gallery sipping our drinks and nibbling on our complimentary DoubleTree cookies.
Thoughts were canvased on the way ahead – mentoring? networking? a Lincolnshire branch of the CIPR? – and plans are now being made for a follow-up gathering in July.
If you’re interested in becoming a PR Geek why not send Jane an email? You can keep up to date on Twitter using the hashtag #PRGeeks. JA
