We’re Giving a Local Charity a Boost

This year we are working with nine-year-old Ethan Maull from Torksey in Lincolnshire to raise awareness of the Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours To Cancer!’ Foundation.

When a family friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, Ethan helped his dad Darren raise £4,000 for Cancer Research UK by joining him to climb the final ascent up Mount Snowdon – an incredible achievement as Ethan was only six at the time.

Sadly, just two and a half years later in December 2012, Ethan – who turns 10 on 4th February – was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of children’s bone cancer. The foundation was set up by Ethan and his family to improve awareness of the condition and raise funds to help others in a similar situation.

We are truly inspired by Ethan’s drive and passion to help others and we’re delighted to help him achieve his goals over the next 12 months. Plans include buying toys and gifts for children on E39 Ward at Nottingham’s Children Hospital where Ethan receives care, as well as raising funds to purchase a property, to be called ‘Ethan’s House’, which could be used by families while their children are having prolonged treatment.

The charity has so far raised £60,000 but needs thousands more to reach its target.

We launched our Charity of the Year initiative in 2009 and since then have supported a number of organisations including Strut in the Community (now KIDS Strut), Lincoln Women’s Aid, cancer charity Candles and Lincolnshire Sports Partnership . Last year
