Back to School with Freshtime

Launch 3 KS1 cropThe leading Boston-based snack salad and vegetable specialists Freshtime have launched a new project to teach Lincolnshire children about the interesting journey of vegetables from the field to your fork.

Our Director Jez Ashberry and Junior Account Executive Shey Osibowale paid a visit to Boston West Academy on Friday (9th May) to launch the Freshtime Fun Club with Freshtime’s Managing Director Mark Newton and Development Chef John Kermode.

Mark gave the excited children a brief summary about Freshtime before John tested their knowledge with a basket full of interesting vegetables, from familiar tomatoes and cabbages to less-well-known ones such as moolis, purple carrots and yellow courgettes.

The children did surprisingly well and even gave examples of meals the vegetables are used in.

To mark their membership of the Freshtime Fun Club the new recruits received fun goodies such as badges, balloons, bookmarks and activity sheets.

Earlier in the year the pupils were asked to create vegetable characters with accompanying slogans. The best of the bunch – including ‘Brussel Sproutwalker: “May the veg be with you” – were then incorporated into the artwork used for the Freshtime Fun Club.

As part of the new partnership, Freshtime will also be donating equipment for the school’s allotment and polytunnel and will be providing the children with regular snack packs of vegetables.

Next month club members will pay a visit to the Freshtime factory to explore the wonderful world of vegetable production in reality! The younger pupils will see salads, snacks and meals being prepared, and the older pupils will take part in a Dragon’s Den style competition and pitch recipe ideas  to a judging panel including Freshtime’s very own Alan Sugar – Managing Director Mark Newton.
