Chipping In for Charity

The Chippy Quiz returned this year, and it will go down in history as our most successful charity event to date!

The highly anticipated quiz was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 owing to Covid-19, but it came back with a bang!

We welcomed 17 teams and beat our record for the amount of money raised for our Charity of the Year with a grand total of £1,527.

The money will go to Shooting Star’s Charity of the Year for 2022, Headway Lincolnshire in addition to the £730 raised from a sponsored cycle ride earlier in the year, bringing the overall figure to £2,257.

Ann-Marie Smith, Coordinator and Development Officer at Headway Lincolnshire, said: “We’d like to thank Shooting Star for organising the evening and to everyone who supported the event.

“We had a fantastic evening, and we are so thankful for everyone’s hard work and generosity. The money raised will go a long way to supporting the work we do with brain injury survivors and their families in Lincolnshire who have been affected by life changing brain injury.”

Over 70 keen quizzers were put through their paces in eight categories including general knowledge, TV and film, music, Australia and current affairs, and at half time they enjoyed a fish and chip supper.

This year’s winners were POP Branding, who won four framed promotional posters of Lincoln designed by University of Lincoln students and a special trophy created by event sponsor Micrometric.

The winner of this year’s best team name was DPS Digital, who competed under the name Let’s Get Battered. They also won a trophy and vouchers to spend at the Elite restaurants and takeaways.

A signed Lincoln City FC shirt donated by the Lincoln City Foundation was auctioned on the night and raised £150, and a raffle of 20 prizes took place, all items kindly donated by local Lincoln businesses or individuals.

A mini game of Heads and Tails coin toss also took place, encouraging the keen quizzers to donate a pound for the chance to win a chocolate hamper.

This year our quiz featured a ‘Jez-the-Joker’ card which teams could raise on their favourite round to double their points! Choosing the right round was crucial!

We launched our annual chippy quiz in 2013 as a way of raising money for our Charity of the Year. So far, it’s helped to generate more than £8,000.

Special thanks go to Nigel and his team at The Elite for hosting the event so superbly as usual, and to our event sponsor Micrometric, who helped us to raise a record amount this year!
